Why suzanne collins choose peeta

Many say that Gale conveniently left District 12, thus giving Katniss no choice but to be with Peeta. But that is not true. Katniss could have opted to not get married at all, never recover and live her life like a robot or even to just kill herself. But it is Peeta who is there for her, caring for her and never leaving her side.

He is the one who inspires her to continue living despite all the pain they've been through. Since Day 1, Peeta is the one person who gives Katniss hope. Hope, when he gave her bread. Hope, when Katniss saw Peeta and collected the dandelions. Hope, when Peeta planted primroses in her yard. And because of this hope, Katniss continues to live. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred.

I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. But not to say that Katniss didn't actually love Peeta - more on this below.

There was never any doubt for me about Katniss's feelings for Peeta, and even in the first book I felt that Peeta was the clear choice.

In the first book, it was quite obvious that Katniss had feelings for Peeta, not necessarily wholly romantic ones, but feelings nonetheless. She felt an attachment to Peeta, who she often dubbed as The Boy With the Bread, because of their shared history. She was surprised that she kept tabs of him as they grew up even knowing that he came in 2nd at a wrestling match. This shows that Katniss does feel something for the boy, but just not entirely sure what it was at first.

Peeta obviously loved Katniss first. His every action was to protect Katniss; she always came first. Peeta risked getting a beating from his mother to give Katniss bread; Peeta teamed up with the Careers in the first Games so he could protect Katniss; Peeta screamed a warning even if he was being tortured at the Capitol; Peeta stopped her from swallowing the pill that would take her life - the list goes on and on and on.

But does Katniss return the feelings? Suzanne Collins disrupts this gendered virtue dichotomy in her Hunger Games trilogy.

Peeta Mellark is a natural diplomat and peacemaker, a gentle soul who fits the feminine model of virtue better than the masculine model. Although Peeta engages in violence when necessary, he is philosophically closer to Martin Luther King, Jr. Peeta is the complement of Katniss Everdeen, who echoes classical male heroes like Odysseus in her combination of martial prowess and trickster wiles. Though the rebels would go on to win against tyrannical President Snow and the Capitol, Gale's thirst for violent revenge seemed to sever any chance he had with Katniss: Mockingjay insinuated that Katniss' younger sister, Primrose, was inadvertently killed by a firebomb Gale had created.

Despite not being fully responsible, Katniss couldn't overlook his possible involvement. Not being able to forgive Gale, Katniss returned to District 12 where she reunited with Peeta. The two supported each other in the recovery process before starting a family. While some considered Peeta the "safe choice," it actually made sense why the protagonist ended up with him. No matter how much Gale endured with the Second Rebellion, he would never fully understand what it was like participating in the Hunger Games.

Peeta Mellark , on the other hand, served as a crucial confidant, seeing as he went through it all firsthand. Despite the terror he faced, Katniss viewed Peeta as a symbol of comfort and salvation. If was not that kind of relationship where she knew in her heat that she loved him. It was the kind that changed and devloped or faded with each action and each word that passed between them. If your battle like that if I was katniss would choose neather. Frist of peeta amost killed himself a couple time if katniss wasn't there he would of never made it to were he is.

Also peeta supposed to have somewhat of broken or bad leg. So that possible made her feel bad for him. Dec 08, PM. I think in the ending it's pretty clear that Katniss, because of what she's been through but especially because of the death of the only person she ever loved, Prim, is permanently emotionally and psychologically damaged.

In the Epilogue, she's a living dead. So, it's clear she did what she had to do in order to, well, survive. Choosing Peeta was an act of pure survival, nothing else; she said it herself in the last page, when saying that she doesn't need someone like Gale who is 'fire' like her , but someone like Peeta, a 'dandelion in the spring', the pure-hearted, kind, gentle and peaceful one.

The one who loves her more than anything in the world. She knew that with Peeta by her side she would live a "happy" and peaceful life. She did what she needed. I think, in the end, it was all about need and survival for Katniss. Even throughout the books, she always did what she felt the need to, and used them when she needed love and comfort.

That's why I find it so irritating when people refer to it as a "love triangle". And, btw, I think that Suzanne Collins concluded the "triangle" in the best way possible. Gale went of somewhere random She felt relief. Not longing, miserable, heart broken, sad, unhappy or anything similar to imply that she loved him. Dec 09, AM.

I guess she really did love Peeta. Becouse throughout the series we see her trully loving Peeta The real problem wasn't if she loved Peeta or Gale, because she loved both in a differend way, but which love was "real".

In the end it turns out that Katniss didn't actually love Gale. She was just enchanted by his strength and will. Love is when two people complete eachother, so, what Katniss needed wasn't what Gale had but what Peeta had.

Kindness, sweetness and peacfullneass that is I think she was going to choose Peeta but the choice was taken away from her what with the war, Gale being a confusing jerk and the whole Coin Vs. Snow thing, not to mention Peeta's hijacking and Prim's death. In the end she didn't get a choice and stuck with him because it was what he wanted. So I guess she'll never know if she really loves him deep in her bones or because of the circumstances that made loving him convenient.
